we told max about his birth finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i say finally because for the past year i have been feeling crazy that he didn't know some of his story. but it is such an intense story, that david and i still have yet, and probably never will, to clear out our shock from his birth. we practiced telling him a few times over the past few years. and then last week it just really felt like it was the time. i told my women's group last week, and they were so helpful and loving and helped me role play a bit to practice even more and to get really clear on what my intentions are in telling him. god was that helpful. and then on saturday morning we told him. it was beautiful. we showed him the baby book i so passionately made in his first year. ummm, neither girl's baby book really has anything in it. but his is fat. so funny how that is what happens. the girls listened. everyone listened. max listened the most. it was like he became a sponge for that time. he didn't really say anything. except, 'i want to see that book,' i think. he was so quiet and thoughtful. and kind-of smily. and he hasn't said a word about it since. which is unusual for him. usually he will retell an intense story like that for months. it's so interesting to me that he just soaked it up like that. zhi has since told me how she just had no idea a baby could come out any other way than the yoni. she is amazed at that possibility. aaaaaah. coming out. i was so ready to let that story see light, max's light. finally. my boy's miracle story.
that night, as i was coming home from our date night in david's car that i picked up at the mechanic's, i hit a raccoon and killed it.
i am so sorry. so sorry.
this picture of zhi from a year ago, burning sweet grass, in a lion suit, feels like love to me right now.
we went on a hike sunday. a very nice august hike. after a lame argument by d and me.
we had friends over in the evening. i was playing in that dress, hula hooping, trying to learn that trick that erin at bluebirdbaby posted a while ago where you spin while taking the hoop up to over your head with your hand, then bringing it back down. tricky. i ripped my dress! i guess that's why it really is smart to listen to the pattern's suggested fabrics, and when it says use a knit, they really mean a knit. i will stitch it up though, and it will be all the better for it. a new detail. it was a large large rip though, right across the chest. hmmmmm.
and, we like hipstamatic a lot now.
love. gratitude. creative passion. sorrow.
love.

lots of interesting mask metaphors in this post. I'm sure it was a relief to get that story out, birth stories are always powerful to all parties involved. I remember you posting about a neat way that you 'fixed' a rip before and it ended up being so cool. Can't wait to see what you come up with. blessings~elizabeth
ReplyDeleteI know that 'soaking it up', 'taking it in' look! I know that sort of smily! And i know that relief. Well done sweet lady.
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful gift to give max, that story. i like the way it satisfied him. i bet he'll want to hear it again and again as he grows up. i wonder if right now he is letting it soak all the way through and sink all the way down? amazing.
ReplyDeletei love the way your posts stick with me for several days. i've been thinking a lot about the last one, the domestic bliss topic...and the way the "perfection blogs" can really bring you down. i had just been noticing that in myself...how depressed i will often feel after visiting certain blogs. unaccomplished, inadequate, short on time, messy, uncoordinated, unlucky, you name it, i hit myself with it. and it always ends in a feeling of deflation. so for the past two weeks or so, i've been really careful about when i go online and what i look at when i do. your blog feels like a safe haven...i love to come here!!!
and the hipstamatic is so addicting! yay!! lovelove
hi h! it's me n, different name now that it's a different school...
ReplyDeletewow on the m story! wish i could have been a fly on the wall to watch them all take it in in the ways that they do...how powerful and deep for them all to know.
my youngest brother came out the not yoni way. when he was little i told him that my mom had to be cut in half to get him out. that wasn't very nice of me at all.
and now i'm laughing about olive and cheese!!
was glad to see the pics with the dress. sorry you ripped it but i know you'll do something interesting to fix it..
love xoxo
elizabeth~ i love how you see things. i have been looking for the mask metaphor now. so helpful.
ReplyDeletetania~ thanks....
mary~~ yeah, the way we go into a visit at certain blogs is so important i'm starting to see. if it is just a habit, in the way that i kind of go there mindlessly, it can really set me up for feeling low for some reason. i have not been to ones that trigger me like that since my post. it is starting to feel hard for me to not check soulemama, or farmama. so funny! it's like i had an unconscious addiction to them. i'm sticking , so far, to my intention to not go there while i still feel so vulnerable. it's so weird!! but really true for me and my traumatized self. i am so glad for you to say my crazy ass blog is a safe haven. i feel the same way with yours.
hi n!! i like the name of your little school. so you. i'm so glad i told you of olive's cheese comment. the laughs still continue. yeah, they pretty much do cut you in half for a c section. it really really feels that way. ......i'll hope for interesting and sassy and cool!
I'm sure you will be telling max again and again. You brave mama! My kids love the story of their birth. Hey, I'm sorry about your dress. We went to a birthday party where they brought out all the homemade hula hoops. It was a lot of fun and I watched the kids try those tricks. I've been meaning to make my own but it sounds like something for my husband to try. Thinking about you Heather, I miss being on the computer so much but it's the best thing for us right now. Love, Kyndale
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to add, because your posts are always so thought provoking, that I'm so so sorry about the raccoon. I hit one one time and I went back to see if it was on the street but I couldn't find it. It must have gone into the forest, hurt and in pain. And also I hear you Mary about the perfect blogs. It's one of the reasons I have stayed off the computer. Although I know their lives are NOT perfect. I hate all that fake stuff. Like, come on, tell us what's really going on. I don't want to hear all the negative stuff all the time but please, I want to hear that they are normal too! Stepping off the soapbox now...
ReplyDeletebeautiful gift of that story...indeed...something to treasure.
